"The Untold Story / The Untamed Universe" by Miranda Lillian Miller

In late autumn 2018, after the summer wildfire near Yosemite had died down and the smoke had cleared, Wildtender embarked on a multi-day backpacking journey through the Yosemite (Ahwahne) Valley, believing that this sacred and climate-changing landscape was calling for our awareness, connection, and care – as were our deep inner selves.

We were an intimate group of twelve, seeking to embody the ancient practice of pilgrimage by approaching this as a journey of body, heart, mind and spirit. Our bodies and spirits were tested when we were faced with an unpredicted and unseasonal blizzard three days into the backcountry! During this arduous apex of the trek, one participant said, "well, we were seeking a pilgrimage and we are surely having one!".

“The Untold Story” by Miranda Lillian Miller

What was I seeking to find? Perhaps I wanted to gain something new or perhaps I wanted to release something old.

I chose to step away from the familiar and to rendezvous with a group of strangers in Yosemite’s wilderness. I was asked to open myself and to experience the life which surrounded me in each moment. I took seven days to pilgrimage through the Earth’s terrain and her elements. In every step my personal circle expanded. My untold story began to unveil as I grew closer to the others while at the same time my growth as an individual deepened.

I trekked on the mountains and along the flowing rivers, gathering a sense of the pure landscape. I listened closely to my personal landscape and started to hear my untold story take shape. My curiosity took me on an inner journey of discovering what I already had. I looked closer at myself and knew no matter how far I climbed or how far I traveled, I’m just right here. I don’t know what the unknown will bring, but I do know that’s where my untold story is told.

“The Untamed Universe” by Miranda Lillian Miller

Just one glimpse of the Milky Way and I’m humbled to be alive. I am merely a being made of stardust with the capacity to feel love.

I am home where I stand and in this moment the open darkness above pulls my gaze. Then, the feeling arises, the connection happens, the expansion appears. I look up to look within and I know I’m experiencing the space in-between the sparkle.

I become misty-eyed, I sense myself expanding and deepening into the night's experience. I’m connected to the beings standing with me, to the beings hovering over me, and to the beings living beneath me.

The seemingly simple beauty of the night sky reminds me that I’m part of a grand design, I’m part of the ordered chaos which I call life. I find peace knowing that the universe will forever be untamed. I can hear the calming blue whisper from afar and find ease within myself. I sink into the unfolding mystery of my inner silence.
